PAINT IN FRANCE IS EXPENSIVE

The french own makes of paint are like water, four coats later and you can still not see much difference.
So we bought Dulux 80 euros for this little lot ,we nearly died when we seen the price.
Of course with sterling being at an awful rate against the Euro it worked out at about £75.
Well worth the extra in time alone as you would be there for days with french paint but why so flippin dear .
Does anyone know how i get rid of the underlines in this and my last post, im confused how did they get there.

  1. Bonjour! Wow - we have been talking about paint of late (Scott's current job has been a bit of painting) and everyone here says the same: crap paint and expensive! Scott now has a business idea whirring around in his head selling paint on-line!!!! As for the lines ... hmmm, it looks like you have 'linked' the text to the photo so if you un-highlight it in edit, you should be able to un-link :-) All the best!

  2. I buy all my paint in Montmorillon - the make is called Little Green Paint Company and it's sold at Renaissance. Fabulous paint that goes on like double cream and no dearer than the Dulux. The colour range is fantastic too.

  5. I had been to a few DIY superstores in Bordeaux when we were on holiday... You could have knocked me down with a feather. you can see why lots of French people dont really go in for decorating very often. Or was that just the houses we looked at to buy?

If we dont get to move to canada, for sure we will end up in France. I love it there. The pace of life suits me to a T. good lck with the renovation!

  6. French paint is like painting with skimmed milk! When we have friends driving over here, we ask them to bring some Dulux from the UK, the prices here are extortionate.

  8. I know paint is sooo expensive here. I saw some farrow & ball in a shop yesterday and they wanted €59 for 2.5 litres and €99 for 5 litres. I nearly had a heart attack.

  9. Given that Dulux et al are multinational I can't understand the huge price difference between France and the UK for paint.

Lately we've taken to using interior crepi. 15 litres for €5 will cover 12-15 square mtres and because it's crepi there is NO see thru. Comes in white and can be tinted or a nice light stone pretint. Easy-peasy to slap on too.

  10. How about the French paint distributors and manufacturers are operating an illegal price fixing cartel?
